Confuse over SCHIP Vote

I was very disappointed over my Congresswoman's vote on the increase in funding for SCHIP. Here is a copy of my letter to her.

Dear Congresswoman Drake:

I am very confused and disappointed over your vote on HR 3162. I don't understand why increasing insurance to indigent children would not be a top priority. HR 3162 raises the SCHIP funding three fold to 75 billion dollars over five years. The program would increase eligibilty from 6.6 million to 11.6 million children. The program's funding comes from an increase in the cigarette tax and a reduction in taxpayer subsidies of insurerers who provide Medicare policies.

In a society whose government is willing to spend 1 billion dollars every 4 days for the our current crisis in Iraq, doing everything to fund needy children must be a priority. These children deserve to have health benefits to insure their continued good health. Senator Warner seemed to feel that expanded children's health insurance was important. Why didn't you?

I appreciate all of your explanations for my concerns. I would appreciate the reasons for your positions.

Sincerely,

Ed Gibbs
